Edmontorcouver is a lovely place full of lovely, intelligent, generous people. That is not the tragedy of Edmontorcouver open data.

The mayor of Edmontorcouver realized that it would benefit the people of Edmontorcouver to have good data about their city widely available. That is not the tragedy of Edmontorcouver open data.

Edmontorcouver hosted a wonderful gala to announce the generous release of great quantities of data.

At first sight, news that the London Stock Exchange (LSE) is moving from the Microsoft .Net-based TradElect to the GNU/Linux-based MillenniumIT system, is just another win for free software. But the details provide some fascinating insights into the world of very high performance – and very expensive – enterprise systems.

Cyclists love OpenStreetMap.org

OpenStreetMap allows people to map their community and show the things that are important to them. It is a collection of tools and data to collect information and create beautiful maps that you can use in creative and unexpected ways. There are more people contributing maps data to OpenStreetMap every week. In September of 2008 there were over 60,000 contributors world wide. Update: there are over 133,000 contributors as of 05 May 2009.

Many of those contributors are cyclists and are active in their communities. Why is that? read more »
